Welcome to Oak Class 2026/27
Oak Class is a mixture of children from Year 5 and Year 6 who learn together first thing in the morning, for English lessons and every afternoon.
In the mornings we start the day with mental maths or quiet reading, followed by a short time of prayer before we split into separate year groups for Maths and RE (two mornings a week.)
The rest of our morning and our afternoons are spent studying a variety of texts in English and exploring a range of subjects across the wider curriculum.
Autumn Term 2026
In Science we will begin the term investigating electricity and circuits, finding out about how electricity is generated and creating our own series and parrallel circuits using symbols to record them. We will then move on to study evolution, looking at inheritance, variation and adaptation in both plants and animals.
In History we will be studying World War II. We will focus on how World War II changed the lives of men, women and children in Britain before, during and after the war.

Our Geography topic will invovle learning about the environmental impact of climate change and considering ways to adapt or mitigate against these changes on a local and global level.
Our PE lessons for the first half of term will be swimming on a Thursday afternoon.
In computing lessons, we will be learning about data handling.
In RE Year 5 will be learning about the story of Moses, particularly focussing on the covenant and Ten Commandments. Year 6 will be studying the second creation story and considering the links between science and Christianity.

Our PSHE sessions will be spent building relationships with our Acorn Buddies.
In music this term, after listening to and learning to sing Feel My Love by Adele, we will learn to play along with our classroom instruments and use YuStudio to compose to the same chord progression.

In art we will be investigating architecture before creating our own monochrome prints of buildings.
In French our speaking and listening focus will be on our homes.
We will also continue to work on our times tables and spellings and explore a wide variety of texts in our guided reading sessions.
